The bacterium Xylella fastidiosa attacks certain plants causing their death by desiccation. It is carried from plant to plant by insects. Following the discovery of several outbreaks since 2015 in PACA, various measures have been put in place to limit the spread of the bacteria.

The Regional Federation of Defense Against Pests of the PACA Region, Organization for Sanitary Vocation, is charged by the Regional Direction of the Food of Agriculture and the Forest to coordinate the surveillance and the fight vis-à-vis this illness.

As part of the national surveillance plan for the bacterium Xylella Fastidiosa, FREDON PACA inspectors are being led this year to explore in the communes on open communal areas, parks, gardens and green spaces in order to realize observations and to collect plants with symptoms for laboratory analysis. The inspectors will be present in the area concerned, which extends from Toulon to Menton from May 2019, until November.

During their visit, they will present on demand their professional card attesting to their qualification.
