At the Château, take your tickets for the Oumou SANGARE concert. she is one of the most famous Malian singers with Western audiences, recently ranked 9th most powerful woman in Africa by Forbes magazine. Coming from a family from Wassoulou, a wooded region located south-east of Bamako, where tradition is directly inspired by the songs of hunters, through her songs, the ample and vibrant timbre, Oumou Sangaré speaks her convictions. Attached to the cultural identity of the country, she believes in traditional values while pointing out those that hold women back.
And today, each new Oumou album creates the event. In Mali, where she still lives today, but also, much more widely, throughout the African continent. Since the release of his first
opus in 1988, the diva has built up a loyal following. Many call her the queen, the mother. Or even, the sub-Saharan Aretha Franklin, in reference to her commitment to the fight
for women's rights.
The youngest know her thanks to Aya Nakamura who devotes a title to her, Oumou Sangaré, on her first album, or to Beyoncé who pays homage to her in a song, Mood for Eva.
